For those who are not satisfied with simply enjoying art from their screens, or tired of packing into the world’s busiest art fairs, we have a solution for you.
At Montague Contemporary, we are on a mission to bridge the gap between artists and collectors, to build a sense of community and stewardship that outlives the hype. We believe there is no substitute for real life experience and that understanding “provenance” begins with understanding the artist.
Introducing Montague Contemporary Journeys, a bespoke series of trips bringing artists, collectors, and enthusiasts together where the story begins - in Africa.
For those who want to be ahead of the curve and gain a deep understanding of the contemporary African art scene, our Journeys offer an up close and personal glimpse behind the scenes to discover some of the most exciting emerging talent in the world. Rare glimpses into the studios of artists, fireside chats with leading local collectors and curators, and insights gathered from local market savvy are all central to the journey.
Our local experts ensure that each Journey affords an opportunity to connect with the people and the place. Spending quality time with the artists in their studios, exploring local cultural institutions, taking some time to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife of the destination - our design is holistic and tailored by nature, ensuring each client achieves their own vision of local understanding.
Part of making the Journey a trip to remember for a lifetime is to ensure the accommodations are unsurpassed. We work with our high-end travel partner SmartFlyer to ensure our guests enjoy the most unique and bespoke accommodations each destination has to offer. Their global network of travel tastemakers ensures tailored experiences and unparalled access for our clients.
In December 2020, we embarked on a 12--day holistic journey across Morocco - visiting leading galleries in Casablanca for an insider's view into the hot contemporary African art market; getting lost in time with a mesmerizing trip through the cities and towns of the remote Atlas Mountains; a celebratory jaunt for New Year’s to a tented camp in the Sahara desert; a faced-past adventure in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where we provided unparalleled insider access to the fast emerging contemporary art scene; and finally ended our stay in the seaside oasis of Tangiers and the 15th century village of Chefchaouen.
